Bill Coffey, CEOBill Coffey, FSA
Owner and CEO

Bill Coffey is the sole owner and Chief Executive Officer of Atéssa Benefits, Inc. His practice concentrates on large-plan actuarial consulting, non-qualified plan administration and executive compensation services. Since 1991, he has worked with Atéssa clients to design, finance, administer and communicate their employee benefits and executive compensation plans.

An actuary by training, Bill has more than 35 years of employee benefits and executive compensation plan experience. Prior to joining Atéssa, he spent twelve years as the Director of Compensation and Employee Benefits for Allied Signal, a Fortune 500 company; five years with a New England life insurance company; and eight years with Towers Perrin.

Karen Matingou joined Atéssa Benefits, Inc. as President in 2008 after two years of service on Atéssa’s Advisory Board. Directing and managing day-to-day operations, Karen retains overall responsibility for quality control and client relationships. Her mission is to ensure that Atéssa’s portfolio of services is comprehensive, offering clients the benefit of a partnership that meets the ever-increasing challenge of providing quality employee benefit programs.

Karen brings over 15 years of experience in the areas of pension consulting, business management, and best practice methods. As a Certified Project Management Professional, Karen is passionate about strengthening performance and delivery, resulting in increased efficiencies, competitive advantage, and profitability.

Mike Bourne, CFO and CCOMike Bourne
CFO and CCO

Mike joined the company in 2009 as Chief Financial Officer and Chief Compliance Officer.  During his 23-year career, Mike has served as COO and CFO in companies ranging from pre-revenue stage to over $100 million in revenues, primarily in manufacturing, aerospace & defense, automotive, recreation and leisure, and the professional services sectors.  In those roles he has led two turnarounds, restructured and improved the performance of five financial teams, driven operational excellence for two vastly different business models, and led several M&A activities.

Gail Meloan leads Atéssa’s Pension Administration Team, working closely with senior staff to provide world class service to our clients. Gail has been with Atéssa since 1999 and has over 20 years of experience in pension and employee benefits administration, which include defined benefit plans, non-qualified plans and health & welfare benefit plans.

Gail has is an active member at conferences and seminars on the pension industry, human resources and business management. She has completed the American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries (ASPPA) Pension Administrator course and is currently working toward the Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) designation.


Matt Avery, Director Actuarial ServicesMatt Avery FSA, EA, MAAA
Director of Actuarial Services

Matt leads our Actuarial Services practice area.  He is responsible for overseeing the actuarial practice and ensuring plan compliance with funding, financial accounting, and administration.

Matt has over 10 years of experience in defined benefit actuarial consulting, most recently with Aon Hewitt in Newport Beach, CA. Matt’s experience includes pension and retiree medical actuarial valuations, nondiscrimination testing, accounting, plan design and administration, and actuarial modeling.
